Working Abroad Comes With Strict Rules

I came across the story of a Nigerian nurse in Australia whose employment was terminated and nursing license withdrawn after she was repeatedly found sleeping during night shifts.
It’s a sad situation, especially knowing how demanding night shifts can be, long hours, exhaustion, and mental strain are very real. At the same time, healthcare is a profession where alertness is critical. Lives depend on it, and professional standards are taken very seriously.
This story is a clear example that abroad, rules are rules no matter your background, nationality, or how hard you’ve worked to get there. Systems are strict, and accountability is high.
It’s also a wake-up call for anyone working night shifts or in critical roles:
▪︎ Take your rest seriously
▪︎ Know your limits
▪︎ Ask for help or adjustments when overwhelmed
One mistake repeated too often can cost a whole career. What’s your take on this do you think the punishment was too harsh, or justified?
