We Met My Husband’s Professor… And Her Story Left Me Inspired!

Today, my husband and I had the privilege of visiting one of his former professors from McMaster University who came to Ottawa for a health conference. Before meeting her, my husband had spoken so highly of her brilliance, kindness, and dedication during his Master’s studies in Global Health. She supervised his project work and is still supporting his PhD research at Laurentian University.
But meeting her in person left me truly inspired.
What amazed me the most was her age. She is so young, yet incredibly accomplished, intelligent, cheerful, and humble. From the moment we started talking, I could see a woman filled with purpose, vision, and passion for what she does. Some people carry excellence naturally, and she is one of them.
During our conversation, she mentioned that she got married last year, but before then, she intentionally focused on building herself academically and professionally. Her reasoning was mature, wise, and deeply inspiring. It reminded me that success is not accidental it is built through discipline, sacrifice, focus, and good decisions.
As immigrants, we must continue to encourage our children to take education seriously. The opportunities available here can completely transform a family’s future, but only when hard work and determination meet those opportunities. As parents, we should not only provide for our children financially, but also invest our time, guidance, encouragement, and presence in their academic journey.
A child who is supported, monitored, encouraged, and inspired can grow into someone who changes the world.
Education remains one of the greatest gifts we can give our children.
