US Says Visitor Visas, Not for Securing Citizenship Through Childbirth.

The United States has reaffirmed its long-standing policy that visitor visas cannot be used for the primary purpose of giving birth in America to obtain U.S. citizenship for a child.

According to the U.S. State Department, “birth tourism”, traveling to the United States mainly to give birth so that a child can automatically become a U.S. citizen is not a valid reason for obtaining a visitor visa. Consular officers can deny visa applications if they believe the primary purpose of the trip is childbirth for citizenship purposes.

The policy has sparked discussions around the world. Supporters argue that it helps protect the integrity of the immigration system, while critics believe it places additional scrutiny on pregnant travelers with legitimate reasons for visiting the United States.

What do you think? Should countries take stricter measures against birth tourism, or should parents be free to travel and give birth wherever they choose?
