UPDATE FOR REFUGEES & ASYLUM SEEKERS IN CANADA π¨π¦ (Medical Bills)

There is a new update about health care for refugees and asylum seekers in Canada.
From May 1, 2026, refugees and asylum seekers will start paying small amounts (co-pay) for some medical services under the federal health program.
What is still FREE?
Doctor visits
Hospital care
Emergency services
These remain 100% covered.
What will require small payments?
βͺοΈ Prescription drugs β about $4 per prescription
βͺοΈ Dental, eye care, counselling, physiotherapy, and some other extra services β you may pay about 30% of the cost
Note
This does NOT mean refugees are paying for hospital or doctor visits.
It only affects extra medical services, not basic care.
This change will start in 2026, so for now, coverage remains the same.
