Under the Maple Leaf: A Promise We Carry 🍁

Sixty-one years ago, on February 15, 1965, a flag rose for the first time in Ottawa. For many of us, it would one day rise in our own lives too.

When we first arrived on this soil, some with suitcases, some with dreams bigger than our fears, the Flag of Canada was more than a symbol. It was a quiet reassurance. A sign that we had found a place where hope could breathe again.

We came from different continents, different languages, different histories. But under the Maple Leaf, we found something powerful: belonging.

Through long winters, we learned to endure.
Through new systems, we learned to adapt.
Through sacrifice, hard work, and starting over, we found our footing.

This flag represents not just opportunity, but dignity.
A promise that our children can dream without limitation.
A promise that our voices matter.
A promise that unity does not require sameness.

Every thread tells a story of those who arrived before us who built, struggled, and persevered. Now we add our own chapters. Our cultures. Our strength. Our resilience.

We do not just live under this flag.
We grow beneath it.
We build with it.
We defend its values with gratitude.

Glorious and free, not just by birth, but by belief.

If this journey resonates with you, share your story. How long have you been under the Maple Leaf?
