UK Updates Student Visa Rules: Only 3 African Countries Can Skip Proof of Funds at Application

The UK government has updated its Student visa guidance, introducing a change that could make the application process easier for students from Botswana, Mauritius, and Tunisia.
Under the UK’s differential evidence requirement, citizens of these three African countries can now apply for a UK Student visa without submitting proof of funds at the time of application. This means eligible applicants do not need to upload bank statements or other financial documents when they first submit their visa applications.
However, there is an important point many people may overlook.
This does not mean students are exempt from the financial requirement. Applicants must still have enough money to cover their tuition fees and living expenses, and UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) can request financial documents at any stage of the application process. If an applicant cannot provide the required evidence when asked, the visa application may still be refused.
For students from Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, South Africa, Egypt, and most other African countries, nothing has changed. They must continue to submit proof that they meet the UK’s financial requirements as part of their Student visa applications.
This update is designed to simplify the application process for certain nationalities, but it is not a relaxation of the UK’s financial rules. Every applicant is still expected to meet the same eligibility standards.
What do you think? Should the UK extend this simplified process to more African countries, or is the current approach fair?
