UK to Deport Failed Asylum Seekers & Offenders to Nigeria Under New Deal 🇬🇧🇳🇬

Nigeria has signed a new agreement with the United Kingdom that will allow British authorities to return certain individuals to Nigeria, including failed asylum seekers, visa overstayers, and convicted offenders.
The deal was signed by Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo and Shabana Mahmood during President Bola Tinubu’s official visit to the UK.
Nigeria will now accept deportees using “UK letters” special identity documents for those without valid passports
This removes a major barrier that previously delayed deportations
Over 900 failed asylum seekers and 1,100+ foreign offenders could be affected
Both countries also agreed to work more closely to:
Combat immigration fraud
Disrupt criminal networks abusing visa systems
Share intelligence and conduct joint operations
Officials say the agreement strengthens immigration enforcement, while Nigeria says it reflects its commitment to international responsibilities.
