UK REMOVES NIGERIAN & GHANAIAN TEACHERS FROM DIRECT QTS APPLICATION ROUTE

If you’re a teacher trained in Nigeria or Ghana and have been planning to move to the UK, there’s a new development you should know about.
From September 9, 2026, teachers trained in Nigeria, Ghana and India are no longer eligible to use England’s direct Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) application service for overseas-trained teachers.
According to the UK Department for Education, the change is linked to its updated verification requirements. The department said more than 70% of applications from teachers in Nigeria and Ghana included employment references using public email addresses such as Gmail or Hotmail instead of official school email addresses.
If teaching in the UK is part of your migration plans, make sure you check the latest requirements before spending funds or making relocation plans.
