Two Teenage Brothers from the Republic of Congo Detained on the Way to School. Then Freed After Community Uproar

Two teenage brothers from the Republic of Congo thought it was just another normal school day in Mississippi.
Instead, it turned into a nightmare.
While waiting for their school bus, ICE agents detained them, separating them and taking them to different facilities miles apart. One is just 15 years old.
Their “crime”? A visa issue they and their host family reportedly didn’t even know existed.
For days, they sat in detention.
But then something powerful happened.
Their school community spoke up.
People rallied around them.
Local politicians were contacted
And it worked.
After growing pressure and public attention, the brothers were finally released and reunited with their host family.
Today, they’re back home and even returning to school while their lawyers fight to fix their immigration status.
How quickly life can change for immigrants.
And how strong a united community can be
Sometimes, raising your voice really does make a difference.
