Traveller Fined $1,300 After Failing to Declare Food Items at Toronto Pearson Airport

A traveller arriving in Canada from Nigeria was fined $1,300 after border officials discovered 37.8 kg of undeclared food and animal products at Toronto Pearson International Airport.

According to the report, a Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) detector dog named Dharla helped officers locate the items during an inspection on June 19.

The seized products included chicken, guinea fowl, goat meat, cowhide (ponmo), and powdered milk. The fine was issued because the traveller failed to declare the items upon arrival.

If you’re travelling to Canada, always remember to declare all food, plant, and animal products, even if you believe they’re allowed. Declaring an item doesn’t automatically mean it will be c0nf!scated, but failing to declare it can result in hefty fines and other penalties.
