Tragic Attack in Leicester: Nigerian Man Found Guilty of Murder

A 24 year old Nigerian man, Chukwuemeka Michael Ahanonu, has been found guilty of the murder of 56 year old Nila Patel in Leicester, UK.
On 24 June 2025, Ahanonu crashed his car while driving dangerously under the influence of cannabis. Minutes later, he randomly attacked Ms. Patel as she walked home from a bus stop on Infirmary Road.
Security staff from Leicester Royal Infirmary restrained Ahanonu until police arrived, and Ms. Patel was rushed to hospital with a fractured skull and brain injury. Tragically, she passed away two days later.
Ahanonu, who had previously pleaded guilty to dangerous driving and possession of drugs with intent to supply, was found guilty of murder by a jury at Leicester Crown Court on 23 March 2026.
