The Western Idea of Marriage Will Shock You: But it Make Sense

One thing I truly appreciate about living in the Western world is how marriage is viewed differently.
Back home, many of us believe marriage only counts if it’s done in church, at the registry, or through traditional rites. But here in countries like Canada, it goes beyond that.
If a man and woman live together for a certain period (usually about 2 years), they are recognized as common-law partners. And guess what? This comes with real rights and responsibilities, almost like being legally married.
Personally, I really like this idea. Back home, you’ll see couples living together, having children but not married which means no protection. At the end of the day, one person (often the man) can just walk away and start fresh somewhere else, leaving the other person stranded.
Here, it’s different. There’s a system that recognizes commitment, even without a formal ceremony and that brings a level of security.
Marriage is more about responsibility and commitment than just the ceremony itself.
What do you think, should this kind of system exist back home too, or do you prefer the traditional way? Let’s talk
