The Ghana Former Finance Minister: Leadership, Legacy, and the African Migration

It is heartbreaking to see this happen to one of Africa’s brightest minds.
Reports say Ghana’s former Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, has been arrested in the United States by immigration authorities. If true, this is more than a personal downfall it is a painful reminder for Africans at home and in the diaspora.
For immigrants and newcomers, stories like this hit differently. Many of us left home searching for safety, dignity, and fairness under systems that enforce accountability the very things our countries often deny their own people.
When African leaders misuse power or avoid responsibility, they don’t just damage institutions. They push citizens to migrate, fracture trust, and stain the image of Africa globally.
Leadership is temporary. Legacy is permanent.
African leaders must do good while in power govern with integrity, serve with humility, and remember that history has no hiding place.
Africa deserves leaders who build, not ones who run.
