Pool Season Is Back, and So Is the Reality of Pool Maintenance

Owning a swimming pool is fun, but it also comes with responsibilities and expenses. πŸ˜„ We just got a delivery of pool treatment chemicals while we wait for the pool technicians to come and officially open the pool for the season.

Our pool was professionally closed around October before winter, and now it’s time to get it ready for summer again. Honestly, before buying our home, we never imagined how much goes into maintaining a swimming pool. We were just excited that the house came with one, until reality set in. πŸ˜‚

Maintaining a swimming pool is more than just filling it with water. The water should be tested and balanced 2–3 times a week, chlorine levels checked regularly, and treatment chemicals added as needed to keep algae and bacteria away.

Leaves and debris should be skimmed whenever necessary, while the pool should be vacuumed and the walls brushed at least once a week.

The filter should be cleaned every few weeks, depending on usage, and the pump should run about 8–12 hours a day during the swimming season to keep the water circulating and clean.

It’s definitely a beautiful feature to have, but it comes with ongoing maintenance and costs. We’re learning that owning a pool is big commitmentπŸ˜…

If you were house hunting, would a swimming pool be a bonus or a deal breaker for you and why?
