MEET DANIEL UMEMEZIE: THE NEW U.S. NATIONAL YOUTH POET LAUREATE!

What an incredible achievement for a young Nigerian-American!
Daniel Umemezie has been named the 2026–2027 U.S. National Youth Poet Laureate, becoming only the 10th young poet to hold this prestigious national title and the second Nigerian-American to receive the honour, following 2023 laureate Salome Agbaroji.
Daniel’s poetry beautifully explores heritage, identity, belonging and the Nigerian-American experience, using his voice and creativity to tell stories that connect cultures and generations.
This is more than just a poetry award.
From Nigeria to America, Daniel is showing the world that our stories, our culture and our voices matter.
Congratulations, Daniel! May this be the beginning of even greater achievements.
Nigerians and Africans in the diaspora, this is another one to celebrate! 🇳🇬🌍
