litre of regular gas in Ottawa is currently around $1.83/L
A litre of regular gas in Ottawa is currently around $1.83/L. In Nigeria, petrol is around ₦1,470/L in some locations.
When you convert the Canadian price to naira, $1.83 is roughly ₦1,740, so the cost of a litre of fuel in both countries look surprisingly similar with a slight difference.
But here’s where the comparison gets interesting
In Ontario, the current general minimum wage is $17.60 per hour. Nigeria’s national minimum wage is ₦70,000 per month, which is less than 75 CAD
So while the price of fuel can be relatively close when converted, the minimum wages are very different.
It makes you think about purchasing power, income and the cost of living in both countries. 🤔
If you live in Canada or Nigeria, how does this comparison look from your own experience? Which country do you think gives workers more purchasing power?
