Killer of Two Nigerian Graduates In Canada Sentenced to Life in Prison
Nearly four years after a tragic shooting claimed the lives of two young Nigerians in Ontario, Canada, justice has finally been served.
Alphonso Harriott has been convicted of the first-degree murders of Chibueze Momah (22) and Tosin Amos Arowoshegbe (25) and, in June 2026, was sentenced to life imprisonment with no possibility of parole for 25 years.
The heartbreaking incident occurred in July 2022 at the ATL Lounge nightclub in Vaughan, Ontario. Chibueze and Tosin, both former international students from Nigeria, had recently graduated and were working as security guards while building their futures in Canada.
According to evidence presented during the trial, Harriott became involved in a dispute inside the nightclub. The confrontation escalated, and he opened fire, deliberately targeting the two security guards before fleeing the scene. Both young men died from their injuries, while another individual suffered bodily harm.
Following a lengthy court process, an Ontario jury found Harriott guilty of two counts of first-degree murder. The court imposed two concurrent life sentences, meaning he will spend the rest of his life behind bars, with no eligibility to apply for parole until he has served at least 25 years. He also received an additional eight-year sentence for causing bodily harm.
The deaths of Chibueze Momah and Tosin Amos Arowoshegbe shocked both the Nigerian and Canadian communities. Friends, family members, and supporters remember them as hardworking young men who came to Canada seeking education, opportunity, and a brighter future.
While no sentence can bring them back, many hope the verdict provides some measure of justice and closure for their loved ones.
Rest in peace, Chibueze Momah and Tosin Amos-Arowoshegbe. Your lives and dreams will not be forgotten.
