INDIAN FAMILY FACES REMOVAL FROM CANADA AFTER 8 YEARS

An Indian family in Quebec is facing removal to India after spending about 8 years in Canada.

The Kumar family, Harish Kumar, his wife Sonika, and their two sons, Goulash, 14, and Japesh, 12 arrived in Canada in April 2018 and sought asylum shortly afterward. Their refugee claim was refused, and the family was facing removal to India on September 7, 2026.

For the two boys, Montreal has been home for most of their lives. During their years in Canada, their parents also worked and became involved in their community. Harish worked as a truck driver, while Sonika worked as a general employee at Village des Valeurs.

The family says returning to India would be difficult because Harish fears for his safety based on alleged past mistreatment by police.

After eight years of building a life in Canada, the family’s situation has sparked conversations about asylum claims, removal orders and the impact of immigration decisions on children who have spent most of their lives in Canada.

What are your thoughts? Should children who have spent most of their childhood in Canada be considered differently in removal cases?
