HOW TO GET A HEALTHCARE JOB IN CANADA 🇨🇦(PSW, Caregiver, Nurse, Health Aide)

One question I get a lot is:
How can I get a healthcare job in Canada?

The truth is, healthcare workers are in high demand but how you enter depends on the role and the requirements.

In-demand roles include:
▪️ PSWs & Health Care Aides
▪️ Caregivers (home support & childcare)
▪️ Registered Nurses (RN)
▪️ LPN / RPN

These jobs are found in hospitals, long-term care homes, retirement homes, and private homes.

Do you need Canadian experience?
Not always.

▪️ PSWs usually need Canadian-approved training or a recognized equivalent
▪️ Caregivers need relevant experience and/or basic training
▪️ Nurses must complete NNAS assessment and provincial licensing
▪️ Foreign experience can count but may need assessment or upgrading

Training and Certification:
▪️ PSW programs: usually 6–12 months
▪️ Nurses: credential assessment + licence
▪️ Caregivers: depends on employer and program

Immigration pathways may include:
▪️ Work permits (where eligible)
▪️ PNP programs
▪️ Express Entry healthcare category draws (for eligible candidates)
▪️ Caregiver pilots
▪️ Atlantic & rural/community programs

Healthcare workers are often prioritized, but all immigration rules still apply.

Job search tips:
●Apply directly on hospital and care home websites
●Use provincial job banks
●Work only with licensed recruiters never pay for a job

Healthcare in Canada is more than a job, it’s service.
Get the right training, follow the right process, and always verify from official sources.
