FULLY FUNDED PhD OPPORTUNITY IN BRITISH COLUMBIA π¨π¦

If you have been looking for a PhD opportunity in Canada, The University of British Columbia (UBC) has an important funding opportunity you should know about.
Starting in September 2026, eligible full-time PhD students at UBC Vancouver will receive a minimum funding package of $40,000 CAD per year for the first four years of their PhD. This applies to both domestic and international students.
This is a minimum funding package, not necessarily a $40,000 scholarship deposited into your account.
The funding can come from a combination of:
β’ Research assistantships
β’ Teaching assistantships
β’ Fellowships
β’ Scholarships
β’ Graduate academic assistantships and other eligible funding
UBC says some students may receive more than the minimum.
International students can benefit from the PhD funding guarantee if they meet the eligibility requirements.
UBC also says eligible international students in research-based graduate programs may automatically qualify for an International Tuition Award of up to $3,200.
The exact requirements depend on the PhD program you choose, but applicants should generally be prepared with:
β’ Relevant academic qualifications
β’ Academic transcripts
β’ References/recommendation letters
β’ Statement or research-related documents, depending on the program
β’ Proof of English proficiency where required
β’ Any additional documents requested by your specific department
β’ A strong research interest that fits the program
UBC notes that the university has minimum admission requirements, but individual PhD programs can have additional requirements.
UBC offers PhD programs across numerous fields, including areas such as science, engineering, education, economics, health, arts, social sciences and more.
If a PhD is part of your long-term goal, this is definitely something worth researching.
Would you consider pursuing a PhD in Canada if you were offered a minimum funding package of $40,000 per year for the first four years?
