FROM LAGOS TO LONDON: NIGERIAN ARTIST SLAWN TAKES HIS CREATIVITY TO NEW HEIGHTS.

Meet Olaolu Slawn a Nigerian-born artist making waves in the international art scene?

Born in Lagos in 2000, Slawn began his creative journey through Nigeria’s skateboarding and streetwear culture before moving to London to study graphic design. During the COVID-19 lockdown, he began painting and developed the bold, graffiti-inspired style that has become his signature.

His talent has since earned him major opportunities, including designing the 2023 BRIT Awards statuette and creating artwork for Formula 1.

Now, during London’s Frieze art week in October 2026, Slawn has taken his creativity to another level by painting on a massive canvas suspended above the city using a crane. The eye-catching live art event took place at Doon Street Car Park on London’s South Bank.

From his early creative beginnings in Nigeria to large-scale artistic displays in London, Slawn’s journey is putting Nigerian-born talent in the international spotlight.

What do you think of Slawn’s artistic journey and his unusual approach to painting? Would you call this creativity, innovation, or something else?
