Another proud moment for Nigerians in the diaspora
Four Nigerian-Americans have emerged victorious in the November 3, 2026, United States midterm elections, securing elective positions across different levels of government.
The winners include:
Will Jawando β Elected Montgomery County Executive in Maryland. He is the son of a Nigerian father and an American mother.
Junior Ezeonu β Won a seat in the Texas House of Representatives for District 101. He was born in Onitsha, Anambra State, and moved to the United States at the age of two.
Oye Owolewa β Won an at-large seat on the District of Columbia Council in Washington, DC. His parents are Nigerians from Kwara and Osun States.
Carol Kazeem β Retained her seat in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, representing District 159.
These victories highlight the growing participation and representation of people of Nigerian heritage in American public life.
It is always interesting to see people of Nigerian descent participating in leadership and public service in countries outside their ancestral homeland.
