Equality. Equity. Justice. Three powerful words but they don’t mean the same thing.
Equality. Equity. Justice. Three powerful words but they don’t mean the same thing.
At first glance, giving everyone the same thing may seem fair. That’s Equality — everyone gets identical support. But the reality is that people start from different places in life, and equal treatment doesn’t always lead to equal outcomes.
Then comes Equity — understanding that some people need a little more support to reach the same goal. Equity adjusts the help each person receives so that everyone has a fair chance to succeed.
But the real goal is Justice. Justice goes deeper. It removes the barriers that created the inequality in the first place, ensuring that everyone truly has the same opportunity to thrive.
This image tells a powerful story:

In our schools, workplaces, communities, and societies, the conversation shouldn’t stop at equality. We must strive for equity and justice because fairness is not about treating everyone the same; it’s about making sure everyone can see the game.
