Children Mirrors What They See Not What We Say
I watched a video online where a secondary school boy spoke so rudely to his mother, and honestly, it was disturbing.
What struck me most was when he said he doesn’t blame her(the mother) and asked if she would speak that way if his father was around 😳. That one statement said a lot. He went further to ask the mother, what she contributes to the home. Children don’t just wake up behaving that way they mirror what they see.
As parents, we often forget that our children are always watching us. How we speak to our spouses, how we handle issues, respect, and disagreement all of it becomes lessons for them.
If we want respectful, responsible children, we must model respect and responsibility ourselves. Homes filled with constant conflict and disrespect often struggle to raise calm children. They often raise children who carry that dysfunction into the world.
Parenting goes beyond providing food and school fees. Character is taught by example.
