CANADA’S 2026 EXPRESS ENTRY: SKILLED TRADES ARE STILL A PRIORITY!

Are you a carpenter, plumber, electrician, welder, machinist or another skilled tradesperson? This information could be worth checking if you’re considering Canada.

Canada has continued its Trades category under the 2026 Express Entry system, which allows eligible candidates with experience in selected trades to be considered in category-based invitation rounds.

Eligible trades include occupations such as:

• Carpenters
• Plumbers
• Electricians
• Welders
• Machinists
• Construction millwrights and industrial mechanics
• Heating, refrigeration and air-conditioning mechanics and other eligible trades.

For skilled tradespeople across Africa, your work experience could be relevant to Canada’s immigration pathways.

However, having a trade does not automatically mean you qualify for permanent residence. Candidates still need to meet the requirements of an eligible Express Entry program and category, including applicable work-experience and language requirements.

Your skills may be valuable beyond your home country. Know a carpenter, plumber, electrician, welder or machinist who is considering Canada?
