Canada Welcomed 188,800 New Permanent Residents in 7 Months — Targeting 380,000 by Year-End
According to figures published by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), approximately 188,800 new permanent residents were admitted to Canada between January and July 2026.
Canada’s immigration target for the entire year is 380,000 permanent residents, under the 2026–2028 Immigration Levels Plan.
This means Canada would need to admit approximately 191,200 additional permanent residents between August and December 2026 to reach its annual target.
Canada’s immigration policy continues to attract attention as the country balances economic needs, family reunification, housing pressures and access to public services.
Do you think Canada will meet its target, fall short, or exceed it? And what do you think should be Canada’s biggest immigration priority right now: filling labour shortages, family reunification, housing availability, or job opportunities for people already living in Canada?
