CANADA & THE UNITED STATES: NEIGHBOURS SHOULD TALK, NOT FIGHT

The relationship between Canada and the United States is too important to be reduced to tariffs, political disagreements and retaliation.

These two countries share the longest international land border in the world, deeply connected economies, businesses, families, communities and millions of personal relationships.

Yes, both countries have the right to protect their workers, businesses and national interests. But when disagreements arise, dialogue and negotiation should always remain on the table.

Trade disputes can have real consequences for ordinary people through higher prices, uncertainty, job concerns and disruptions to businesses and supply chains.

Canada and the United States may not always agree and that’s okay. Good neighbours don’t have to agree on everything.

But good neighbours talk, negotiate and look for common ground.

Instead of celebrating division, let’s hope both governments can find a constructive path forward.

Strong neighbours don’t need to weaken each other to succeed. Sometimes, the strongest move is simply finding a way to work together.

What do you think? Should Canada and the U.S. focus more on negotiation than retaliation?
