CANADA SAYS THANK YOU TO THE MEXICAN FIREFIGHTERS ON THE FRONT LINES

While thousands of British Columbians are facing evacuation orders and devastating wildfires continue to spread, more than 300 Mexican firefighters and wildfire specialists have travelled thousands of kilometres to help Canada.
They left their own homes, families and communities behind and came to British Columbia to stand on the front lines alongside Canadian firefighters.
The Bald Range wildfire has grown rapidly, threatening communities around Summerland and forcing tens of thousands of residents to evacuate or remain on alert.
The terrain is steep. The heat is intense. Strong winds are carrying embers far ahead of the main fire, creating new fires and making the battle even more dangerous.
And yet, these Mexican firefighters showed up.
They came through a mutual-aid system that allows countries to share trained wildfire crews when one nation is overwhelmed. Canada has also sent help abroad when other countries have needed it.
That is what international friendship looks like.
Mexico didn’t have to send these firefighters to British Columbia.
But they came.
They are putting their own lives on the line to protect Canadian communities, homes and families.
To every Mexican firefighter standing on the fire line in British Columbia. GRACIAS. THANK YOU.
And thank you to every Canadian, Mexican, Australian, New Zealand and other firefighter battling these fires.
Different countries. Different flags. One fight.
