Canada has an updated Francophone Minority Communities Student Pilot

If you’re considering studying in Canada and you speak French, this is an immigration pathway you may want to know about.

Canada has an updated Francophone Minority Communities Student Pilot, which can provide a pathway to permanent residence for eligible French-speaking international students who study in French at participating institutions outside Quebec.

To qualify for the PR pathway, students will generally need to complete at least a 2-year full-time program, taught mainly in French, at a participating designated learning institution. They must also live in Canada outside Quebec and meet the other program requirements.

The PR pathway is currently scheduled to open in winter 2027, so students planning their studies should pay attention to the participating schools and official eligibility requirements as more details are released.

This is another indication that Canada continues to place importance on attracting French-speaking newcomers and strengthening Francophone communities outside Quebec.

If you speak French and have been thinking about studying in Canada, this could be an option worth researching.
