Behind Every Successful Immigrant Child Is an Intentional Parent

Raising successful children abroad doesn’t happen by grace alone or by luck. It takes intentionality, dedication, consistency, and a clear vision from parents.
That’s why whenever I see immigrant children excelling academically, professionally, or in their character, I celebrate not only the children but their parents as well. Raising children abroad is not easy.
Children are exposed to independence and decision-making at an early age. They learn from school, friends, social media, and the society around them. If parents are not intentional about the values, discipline, and direction they want for their children, things can easily go differently from what they envisioned.
A few ways parents can be intentional include:
• Spend quality time with your children.
• Teach and model the values you want them to have.
• Stay involved in their education and activities.
• Know their friends and influences.
• Encourage open communication at home.
• Celebrate their efforts, not just their achievements.
Parenting comes with challenges, but with intentionality and consistency, we can raise children who are focused, responsible, and successful.
What other ways do you think parents can be intentional about raising children? What’s one parenting principle that has worked for your family?

Growing up back in the days, what I learnt from my parents was the intentionality of being in the children’s lives, be a present parent.
