AT JUST 16, THIS NIGERIAN IS ALREADY WORKING ON AI, COMPUTER VISION & ROBOTICS AT APPLE.
Meet Belusochim Ugochukwu, a remarkable 16-year-old Nigerian whose story is an inspiration of what young African talent can achieve.
Belusochim moved from Nigeria to the United States at 14 with a strong passion for technology and machine learning. Just two years later, he is already working at Apple as an AIML intern on the company’s Environment & Supply Chain Innovation team, with work involving computer vision and robotics.
But Apple is only one part of his incredible journey.
He began competing in Mathematics and Physics Olympiads at 11, graduated from high school early, and started college at just 15.
He has also explored AI research, including diffusion models for crystal generation, and has worked on prototypes of robotic wheelchairs designed to help people with disabilities.
He has also been involved in entrepreneurship and the startup ecosystem, with a dream of building companies that expand what humanity can accomplish with AI.
And now, at just 16, he has even been pictured with Apple CEO Tim Cook. But honestly, the biggest lesson here isn’t Apple. It is what can happen when talent meets curiosity, discipline, opportunity and the courage to build.
For African parents, this is an example that our children need more than good grades. Let’s encourage them to ask questions, experiment, build things, solve problems and explore technology.
And to every young African dreaming big. Your age does not have to limit your vision. Today, it’s one 16-year-old Nigerian making his mark in AI and robotics. Tomorrow, it could be thousands more.
Congratulations, Belusochim. Your story is bigger than Apple. It is a proof that incredible talent and potential that exists among young Africans.
Do you think African countries should invest more in identifying and nurturing young technology talents like Belusochim?
