ANOTHER NIGERIAN REPORTED KILLED IN RUSSIA-UKRAINE WAR AFTER ALLEGED RECRUITMENT SCHEME

Fresh reports from Ukrainian intelligence claim another Nigerian has lost his life while allegedly fighting for Russian forces in the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war.
The deceased, identified as Ayebusiwa Olabode Victor from Ondo State, Nigeria, was reportedly killed during combat operations in the Kharkiv region of Ukraine.
According to Ukraine’s Defence Intelligence, Victor allegedly signed a military contract with Russian forces in February 2026 just days after Nigerian authorities warned citizens against getting involved in foreign wars.
Ukrainian officials claim many African nationals are being targeted through social media platforms like Facebook and WhatsApp with promises of jobs, fast money, and better opportunities abroad. However, upon arrival in Russia, many reportedly discover there are no civilian jobs waiting for them and are allegedly pressured into joining the military.
The agency further alleged that several Nigerians have already been recruited into the conflict, with some reportedly dead or missing.
Nigeria has repeatedly stated that the country is not part of the Russia-Ukraine war and has warned citizens against participating in foreign armed conflicts.
The latest development has sparked serious concerns online about the growing reports of vulnerable Africans allegedly being drawn into one of the world’s deadliest ongoing wars.
This is also a strong reminder to Nigerians and other Africans that desperation to travel abroad without proper verification and due process can be extremely dangerous. Not every overseas opportunity shared online is genuine. Before accepting any travel offer, job opportunity, or recruitment deal, people are encouraged to verify information through official government channels and avoid shortcuts that could put their lives at risk.
The claims were made by Ukrainian intelligence authorities and have not yet been independently confirmed by Nigerian officials.
