7 Categories of Immigrants You’ll Meet Abroad

If you’ve lived abroad long enough, you’ll notice that people approach the immigrant journey in very different ways. Over time, certain patterns start to show up
1. The Survivors
They escaped hardship back home. For them, safety, stability, and peace of mind already feel like a major win and what they desire most.
2. The Complainers
They often focus more on what’s not working for them, the country, the system, the people, even the weather while constantly comparing everything to “back home.”
3. The Comfort Zone Crew
Once they secure an okay job, an apartment or buy a house, and maybe a decent car, they settle in and stop pushing for more growth.
4. The Paper Chasers
Their main focus is getting permanent residency or citizenship. Once the papers arrive, motivation sometimes slows down.
5. The Builders
They see migration as a long-term project. They build skills, invest in education, grow businesses, raise strong families, and focus on impact, growth, and legacy not just papers.
6. The Hustlers
Always on the move. Multiple jobs, side businesses, extra shifts. They may be exhausted, but they’re determined to improve their lives and support those depending on them.
7. The Community Pillars
They help others find their feet sharing information, offering guidance, connecting people, and lifting others up. Their success includes pulling others along.
Every journey is different, and many people move between these categories over time.
Which category do you think you fall into or are you becoming?
