12-YEAR U.S. SHIPPING RESTRICTION ON NIGERIAN PORTS LIFTED.

A major development for Nigeria’s maritime sector.
The United States Coast Guard has lifted a 12-year Condition of Entry (CoE) that required vessels that had recently called at designated Nigerian ports to undergo additional security measures and enhanced scrutiny before entering U.S. waters.
The restriction was introduced in 2014 because of concerns about maritime security. After several assessments between 2024 and 2026 showed significant improvements in Nigeria’s maritime security and compliance with international standards, the U.S. has now removed the additional requirements.
The move could help reduce additional shipping-related costs, improve vessel turnaround times and make Nigerian ports more competitive internationally.
A significant milestone for Nigeria’s maritime industry after 12 years.
What do you think this could mean for Nigeria’s economy and international trade?
