🇺🇸 MAJOR UPDATE: U.S. Slashes Citizenship Renunciation Fee from $2,350 to $450

Starting April 13, 2026, the cost to renounce U.S. citizenship will drop dramatically  from $2,350 to $450.
This fee is a non-refundable administrative charge paid to the U.S. government when an individual formally takes the Oath of Renunciation at a U.S. embassy or consulate abroad.
While the new fee makes the process significantly more affordable, individuals considering renouncing should also be aware of other possible costs, including:
• Legal or attorney fees
• Tax compliance filings
• A potential “exit tax” for certain high-income or high-asset individuals under U.S. tax rules
For many dual citizens and long-term expatriates, this change could remove a major financial barrier to formally ending U.S. citizenship.
If you know someone who has been considering this step, this update could be important.
