🇬🇠Ghana Steps In to Protect Citizen After Xenophobic Attack in South Africa

Ghana has taken decisive action to protect one of its own, announcing plans to relocate Emmanuel Asamoah to a safe and undisclosed location fully funded by the state following a disturbing xenophobic incident in South Africa.
The move comes after a widely circulated video showed Asamoah being harassed, humiliated, and targeted simply for being a foreign national. The footage sparked outrage across social media, with many condemning the treatment as degrading and inhumane.
In response, Ghana’s Foreign Ministry acted swiftly confirming that Asamoah is legally residing in South Africa and has committed no crime. Officials described the incident as deeply offensive and emotionally distressing, making it clear that his safety could no longer be guaranteed if he remained exposed.
Now, the government is not only ensuring his immediate protection but also covering the full cost of his relocation and resettlement. His new location will remain confidential for security reasons.
This action sends a strong message: Ghana will not stand by while its citizens are mistreated abroad.
At a time when xenophobic tensions continue to surface, especially against foreigners working hard to build honest lives, this intervention highlights the importance of dignity, protection, and accountability.
No one deserves to be targeted for where they come from.
Humanity must always come first.
