U.S. Authorities Arrest Nigerian National Over Alleged Nursing Home Abuse in California

U.S. law enforcement authorities have arrested 61 year old Nigerian national Kayode Agbolade Ogunba following allegations of sexual abuse involving patients at a nursing home in Santa Barbara County, California.
According to the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office, the investigation began after reports were received from a long-term care facility in Goleta. Detectives say the allegations involved vulnerable patients, prompting an immediate inquiry by local authorities.
As the investigation progressed, officials uncovered information suggesting that Ogunba may be connected to similar alleged incidents in other U.S. states, leading to a broader, multi-jurisdictional review. Authorities have not yet released details about the number of alleged victims or the locations of the additional cases.
Ogunba was arrested in Los Angeles on January 20, 2026, and later transferred to Santa Barbara County. He is currently facing multiple felony charges related to the alleged abuse. Jail records indicate that he is being held at the Santa Barbara County Main Jail, with bail set at $100,000.
The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that the investigation remains ongoing and encouraged any potential victims or witnesses to come forward with information that may assist law enforcement. Officials also emphasized that protecting vulnerable individuals in care facilities remains a top priority.
As with all criminal cases, Ogunba is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
The case has sparked renewed attention on safeguards within long-term care facilities, including employee screening, oversight, and the protection of elderly and dependent patients. Further details are expected as the legal process continues.
