Update: U.S. Pauses Immigrant Visa Processing for 75 Countries
The United States has announced a temporary pause on immigrant visa processing for people from 75 countries.
This affects immigrant visas (permanent residency/green cards) that are processed at U.S. embassies and consulates outside the U.S.
It does not affect tourist, student, or other temporary visas, and it does not cancel visas that have already been issued.
For now, there is no clear date for when processing will resume.
Many applicants have already spent years completing paperwork, paying fees, doing medical exams, and attending interviews. With this pause, family reunification plans, job offers, and relocation plans may now face delays and uncertainty.
What this means for immigrants
▪︎ Longer waiting times for immigrant visas
▪︎ Delays in family and work-related immigration
▪︎ Plans to move to the U.S. put on hold
▪︎ Increased uncertainty for applicants
This is not a total visa ban, but it has caused many to rethink their options. As a result, more immigrants are now looking at other countries such as Canada, Australia, and parts of Europe, where immigration systems may be more predictable.
Immigration is about people seeking safety, stability, and opportunity. While this pause is difficult for many, it does not mean the end of the journey just a change in direction or timing.
