Want to Become a Family Doctor? Ontario Has a Funding Opportunity for You.
Ontario is expanding the Ontario Learn and Stay Grant for Medical Education, which can cover eligible direct education costs including tuition, compulsory fees, books, supplies and equipment for qualifying medical students.
Starting in 2026, eligible participants must be Ontario residents and be enrolled in a postgraduate family medicine residency program at an Ontario medical school.
In exchange for the funding, recipients must commit to practising comprehensive primary care as a family doctor anywhere in Ontario for at least five years after completing their residency.
The program is designed to help reduce the financial burden of medical education while encouraging more family doctors to practise in communities across Ontario.
Would you consider having your eligible medical education costs covered if it meant committing to practise as a family doctor in Ontario for five years?
