U.S. TEMPORARILY PAUSES OR RESCHEDULES IMMIGRANT VISA INTERVIEWS WORLDWIDE

If you or a loved one is waiting for a U.S. immigrant visa interview, this is an important update to know.

The U.S. State Department has temporarily paused or adjusted immigrant visa appointments at U.S. embassies and consulates around the world as consular officers undergo a new global training program.

According to the State Department, the training includes updated guidance on how officers assess whether visa applicants are likely to become dependent on certain U.S. public benefits.

As a result, some applicants who already had interviews scheduled may receive notices that their appointments have been rescheduled, while others waiting for appointments could experience additional delays. There is currently no clear date for when regular immigrant visa appointment scheduling will fully resume.

Note: This development concerns immigrant visa appointments. It does not mean that all U.S. visas, such as tourist or student visas, have been suspended.

For families who have waited years to reunite in the United States, another delay can understandably be frustrating and costly.

If you are currently waiting for a U.S. immigrant visa interview, keep checking your email and the official U.S. embassy or consulate website handling your case for updates.

This is a developing situation, so applicants should rely on official U.S. government communications for case-specific information.
