No More Embassy Visits? Nigeria Launches Contactless Passport Renewal for Nigerians Abroad

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has introduced a Contactless Passport Renewal process, allowing eligible Nigerians abroad to renew their passports without visiting a Nigerian embassy or high commission for biometric capture.

Here’s a quick overview of the process:
• Visit the official NIS Passport Application Portal.
• Apply for passport renewal or re-issue.
• Verify your identity using your National Identification Number (NIN) and date of birth.
• Complete your application and upload the required documents.
• Pay the passport booklet fee.
• Receive your Application ID and Reference Number.
• Choose the Contactless option under your application.
• Download the NIS mobile app.
• Complete your facial image, fingerprint capture, and liveness verification through the app.
• Pay the contactless enrolment fee and submit your biometric details.

The goal of this new system is to make passport renewal more convenient for eligible Nigerians living abroad.

Have you used the new contactless passport renewal service yet? If yes, how was your experience? Share your thoughts in the comments to help others in the diaspora.

Always use the official Nigeria Immigration Service platform when applying or renewing your passport.
