Wealth Building Lessons

I arrived in the UK in 2007. Like many immigrants, my goal was straightforward: work hard, send money home, and build a beautiful house in Africa.

For 18 years, I rented—paying £850, then £1,100, then £1,400 each month. I never missed a payment and was the ideal tenant. Last year, I totaled up all the rent I had paid, and I nearly fainted—it was over £220,000.

That money built someone else’s wealth, even as I was busy paying off houses back home that don’t generate any income. Today, I finally purchased a modest three-bedroom house in the UK, with a mortgage payment lower than my previous rent. Now, each payment builds something for my children.

My lesson? A house in Africa may impress relatives, but a house in the UK can transform your family’s future. Sometimes, wealth isn’t visible; it’s what your children inherit.

This is for people insisting that paying mortgage is waste of finances. I hope this helps ✍️
