Mental Health Matters: Lessons from Here and Back Home.

Two days ago was World Autism Day, and it got me thinking deeply.

Autism, ADHD (Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder) and other Neurodevelopmental disorders are often seen as “very common” in Western countries. But the truth is, it’s not necessarily more common here it’s just better understood.

Here, children are diagnosed early. They receive support in schools, access to healthcare, support workers, and even government assistance. They are not hidden they are helped.

Back home, it’s a different story.

Many people go through life undiagnosed. And for the few who are identified, stigma becomes their biggest battle. Instead of support, they face labels. Instead of understanding, they face isolation.

But here, I’ve seen something different. I’ve seen people with autism and ADHD go to school, get jobs, live independently, and earn a living. They are given a chance to thrive, not just survive. Here I’ve seen a non verbal autistic person working and living independent life.

It really makes me wonder, how many brilliant minds back home were never discovered? How many lives could have been different with just a little support and understanding?

Mental health is real. Neurodevelopmental conditions are real. And the way we respond to them can change everything.

Let’s do better. Let’s learn more. Let’s support more.

What do you think needs to change to help more people with mental health conditions live fulfilling lives?
