She Moved Abroad Without Telling Me… Would You Be Hurt?
Someone shared how she ended a friendship of several years because her friend didn’t tell her about her relocation plans. According to her, she only found out after the friend had already landed in a new country.
She felt hurt and decided to cut ties.
But honestly, this got me reflecting from a different angle. Not every friendship is the same.
Some friends are like family, like siblings. You’ve been through storms together, supported each other, sacrificed for one another. In that kind of bond, it almost feels natural to share big life decisions.
But then some friendships are just that — friendships. And that’s okay.
Personally, I believe in protecting certain information until it’s the right time. Not everything needs to be shared at the planning stage. Sometimes it’s wisdom, sometimes it’s privacy, sometimes it’s just understanding your circle.
If someone chooses not to tell you their plans early, it might not be betrayal it might simply mean the relationship isn’t at that level you thought it was. And that’s a hard truth many people don’t like to face.
So now I’m curious, did you tell your friends about your relocation plans before leaving, or did you inform them after you arrived?
