Intentional Parenting or Unrealistic Expectations?
I recently saw a post where a parent proudly shared that their 20-month-old has:
• Never watched a cartoon
• Never owned an iPad or tablet
• Never taken juice
• Never taken baby formula
And honestly? Many commenters said they’re doing the same.
First of all, I applaud every parent who is intentional about how they raise their children. Parenting is personal, and every family makes choices based on what works for them.
But here’s my honest curiosity, what exactly is wrong if a child has watched cartoons in moderation?
Or used a tablet occasionally?
Or had juice once in a while?
Or was fed baby formula?
All my children experienced some of these things at that age some even earlier and they still met their developmental milestones right on time. Healthy. Happy. Thriving.
Sometimes I wonder if social media is turning normal parenting choices into ‘silent competitions’.
There’s no medal for “most restrictive parent,” just like there’s no trophy for “most flexible parent.” What truly matters is balance, love, guidance, and paying attention to your child’s overall development.
Every child is different. Every home is different. And most importantly, every parent is trying their best.
What’s your take?
Do you believe avoiding all these things makes a significant difference? Or do you believe moderation works just fine?
